Ever dream of becoming one of those creativepreneurs who can stay on top of things consistently over time, even as your to-do list is a war of attention against both your organizational systems and your motivation? Become a unicorn in action and not let your to-do list consume your energy levels?
Well, guess what! You can.
How? By getting the most out of your days by using the theme day method.
Pin me to read later!
Using this technique has helped to make my days feel more organized and less overwhelming. I’m able to get into a better flow state since I’m not task switching (as often, let’s face it — social media is addicting).
This approach works amazingly for me. In fact, I’d say that whether you work from home or not, theming your days can go a long way to making any creativepreneurs a better one. Best of all, it isn’t hard to do.
Here are five things I’ve noticed since theming my days that have played a role in making me a better creativepreneur. And a free guide to start creating your own theme day schedule.
Being a creativepreneur means that not only do we have to create our art but we also have to take care of the business side as well.
And this means that our to-do list is a never-ending cycle of stuff that needs to get done.
As an entrepreneur, I was having trouble scheduling my time so that I wasn't feeling overwhelmed. Click To Tweet
As an entrepreneur, I was having trouble scheduling my time so that I wasn’t feeling overwhelmed. I would have a client phone call, and then try and jump back into work, and then have to drive to an appointment, then jumping back into work again.
I felt like I was basically getting nothing done but I also was exhausted and in major need of a nap. And also one of the reasons why I decided to start my own business in the creative field is to have the freedom to spend more time with my family.
But at this rhythm, I wasn’t getting anywhere near the freedom and flexibility I craved for.
So I decided to analyze my days and workload and figure out a better way to manage my time; basically, see if there was some sort of pattern I can follow.
Hence create a schedule that works for me. And not let it consume every waking hour. Figure out what deserves my time and getting down to the nitty-gritty of how exactly I was managing my time.
The first thing that I did was to do a major brain dump of every task with this kind of classification :
Once I did this exercise, then I started to group tasks together.
And only then did I start to see this pattern forming beyond my eyes.
In this free guide, it will help you do the same. It will help you get clear on what theme day you have on a weekly basis and create your ideal schedule that works for you.
Before theming my days – which gave me back my freedom and flexibility – I would dive into my to-do list to see what need to get done, no matter how long it would take me to do it.
I would schedule my week based on a client project and leave my business on the back burner. As a result, the to-do list grew while my business didn’t.

Once I did the brain-dumping exercise and grouping my tasks into theme day, I started to feel less overwhelmed and stress-free. This is because I took the time to organize my tasks into chuck that would allow my business to grow.
By asking myself: what do I need to do on a regular basis that actually creates my business?
Now I simply look at my scheduling app (Trello lover here). Seeing what the day “means” to me allows me to get the tasks I need to accomplish without seeing undetermined and a never-ending to-do list.
As a result, I have less decision fatigue and even have more energy when I spend time with my family.
At the end of the day, I do a mini review session deciding on My 3 Absolutes for the next day and they are now scheduled in for the next theme day.
For example, if I didn’t get to finish a task related to CLIENT WORK DAY, I jotted it down to remind me that next Monday I need to finish this task.
This helps me go to bed knowing that the task for that particular theme is already scheduled in.
I don’t have to worry about whether or not if I accomplish everything on my to-do list. It is already scheduled and locks in for the next theme day.
I will admit I am not a morning person. One of the benefits of scheduling each day of the week with a theme is that when I wake up in the morning (around 7ish) I may not know what I need to do specifically, but I know what day of the week it is.
Since I assign each day a theme, my mind automatically knows what to focus on for that day with absolute certainty.
This helps me focus for the day ahead of me and all the tasks in front of me and allows me to move forward with purpose and confidence.
I waste less time figuring out what lies ahead, and it allows me to get straight to work and be present to what matters to me the most when it comes to growing my business.
When you simplify things in your business, then managing your business won’t feel like you are swimming in the deep end. In my experience, when it is simple, it is easier to manage and understand.
And this holds true when I began theming my days. I have more time to do the things I wanted to do rather than be on project mode.
As of right now, I see that I am not wasting as much energy going through my day because I’ve categorized it with a specific focus and then I scheduled the day with my morning and evening routines.
You can also spend more time being IN your business rather being OUT of business. Click To Tweet
All of this means you can deal with the day more effectively and efficiently. You can also spend more time being IN your business rather being OUT of business.
Once you categorize your days, you can have an over bird view of what you expect during your week. And you can see how much you are worth.
Meaning you can see what you are actually spending your time with and deciding whether or not it is even worth it. With a simple to do list, you can never see that.
We all have 24 hours, but it is up to us on to HOW we distribute it wisely that matter. Click To Tweet
Before using this theme day method, I didn’t value my time as something important.
We all have 24 hours, but it is up to us on to HOW we distribute it wisely that matter.
Now I know what is my worth and what I should be focusing on. All thanks to this theme day method. Theming allows me to shape my business in a way that matches my time and worth.
Theming my days has helped me grow my business so much that I wish I would have discovered it earlier. I have a lot more freedom and flexibility now.
I am not second guessing my decision or looking at my to-do list as if it was some sort of roadmap to success.
So in order to put you on the road to success, I created this Theme Scheduling Guide to help you feel less overwhelmed on a weekly basis and feel more focused on a daily basis. (You can download it by clicking on the button below.)
