So, you have a business.
Maybe even an established brand.
Now you’re wondering how to consistently attract new customers or clients and you want an easy, non-pushy way to connect with them.
Enter: digital marketing.
Pin me to read later!
Digital marketing is the process of sharing content digitally that then converts and intrigues a target audience, based on the type of strategy used.
In general, digital marketing consists of a variety of aspects: email newsletters, blog posts and social media statuses, to name a few.
Here are 7 tips to help you master digital marketing for your biz:
When you show up, show all the way up. Every time.
Create a consistent posting schedule and make sure you are posting every. Single. Day. to attract new audience members and remind those who already follow you – it’s like a friendly tap on the shoulder saying, “Hi – me again!”
The best way to do this is to plan using what’s called an “editorial calendar.”
Usually an Excel doc with columns for post date, post text, post image and post link, the spreadsheet organizes all of your social media posts – and your overall content calendar with streamlined systems. You can even implement a color-coding system if you’re an organization lover like myself! 😉
Be consistent in the ways you speak, what type of imagery you share and the values that you portray to your audience. Click To Tweet
In addition to your posting schedule, be consistent in the ways you speak, what type of imagery you share and the values that you portray to your audience.
There is no one else quite like you, boss.
When you share content, use “isms” that are unique to YOU!
Maybe you talk in slang or use a phrase consistently that your friends and family would equate with you.
Mine? “Yaasss, queen!” (I think I watch a little too much RuPaul’s Drag Race!).
Are you an animal lover? Social justice activist? Secret chef when you get in your kitchen and tie that apron!? We all have talents, passions and values that set us apart from our competition.
Your audience will be attracted to you for you and the things you share in common.
You won’t be the right person for everyone, and that’s actually pretty darn special. This allows you to attract the right fits and avoid difficult client/customer relationships.
Also, try not to look like everyone else. Your social feeds, website design and branding should be unique to you and your business – and not just “what’s trendy” in this moment.
When I rebranded my biz (and my lifestyle blog), I took a lesson from Fiona Humberstone’s “How to Style Your Brand” color psychology book and truly honed in on my values and which seasonal palette best fit my brand.
Now, I know that I’m attracting the right tribe while also being true to myself.
Hook ‘em and reel ‘em in, boss! Use opt-in forms throughout your website, blog posts and social media links to capture their email and offer them a freebie of some sort to provide value.
Share something that is unique to your niche.
If you’re a baker, share your latest favorite creation in an actionable recipe they can use that night. If you’re a photographer, share the top 10 most frequently booked destinations for X (type of) photoshoot.
By providing an opt-in freebie, you are converting them onto your email list while also working to build trust and loyalty with your audience. Be sure you are directly answering a question they have, indulging an interest they expressed or touching a pain point they’re experiencing.
There’s nothing worse than failing to resonate or connect to your audience because you’re not leading with authenticity. Make sure that the way you talk and the types of imagery and content you share is in line with who you are at your core and most importantly, SOUNDS like you.

Remember the definition of content marketing: the distribution of content that does not outwardly promote a brand, but is intended to generate interest in it.
Lead from a helpful, friendly and relatable stance, leaving the salesy gibberish behind.
While opt-in freebies for your mailing list are great, it’s equally important to be generous on every single platform.
Offer up free tidbits of value through your blog posts, social posts, website’s FAQs page, etc.
I always say: offer up enough value to where you’re second-guessing if you should be sharing that much for free! But, don’t devalue yourself or give away the whole lesson, boss!
Be true to kindness, friend. Approach everything in your business with a compassionate tone.
Don’t write passive aggressively (even though you may REALLY want to with how frustrating client/customer and business relationships can occasionally be!) and don’t use vulgarity unless this is necessary to convey your brand (the latter can be very useful for some!). Those God-awful Tumblr quotes and “mean girl” trendy memes have no business on business profiles! 🙂
Don’t bend yourself into a pretzel just to make others happy. 🙂
The right customers / clients will come to you for YOU and you can relax knowing that fact, superstar! Nobody else can be you in all your beautiful quirks and mannerisms.
Nobody talks like you, nobody walks like you, nobody feels quite like you. You put these all together and you’ve got one freakin’ beautiful brand ready to woo the ideal audience… and woo you will, my friend!

When it’s all said and done, being different and true to yourself is the way to win this game.
Standing out in the sea of people offering similar services or products as you is the key to success. Digital marketing is just a tool to help you get there. Go get ‘em, boss!
